Oh he was a handsome trotter and he couldn't be completerA
He had such a splendid action and he trotted to this metreA
Such a pace and such a courage such a record killing powerA
That he did his mile in two fifteen his twenty in the hourA
When he trotted on the Bathurst road the pace it was a panterA
But he broke the poet's rhythm when he broke out in a canterA
-
As we were remarking the pace was a panterA
But just as we liked it he broke in a canterA
And rattled along with a motion terrificB
And scattered the sparks with a freedom prolificB
He tugged at the bit and he jerked at the bridleC
We pulled like a demon the effort was idleC
The bit in his teeth and the rein in the crupperA
We didn't much care to get home to our supperA
-
Then we wentD
Like the windE
And our handsF
They were skinnedG
And we thoughtH
With a dreadI
To go over his headI
And we tuggedJ
And we stroveK
Couldn't sayL
That we droveK
Till we foundM
It had stoppedN
And the gallop was droppedN
-
Then he dropped into a trot again as steady as a pacerA
And we thought we had a dandy that was sure to make a racerA
That would rival all the Yankees and was bound to beat the BritishO
Not a bit of vice about him though he was a trifle skittishO
Past the buggies and the sulkies on the road we went a flyingP
For the pace it was a clinker and they had no chance of tryingP
But for fear he'd start a canter we were going to stop his caperA
When he bolted like a bullet at a flying piece of paperA
-
Helter skelterA
What a pelterA
Such a pace to win a welterA
RushQ
RaceR
TearA
Flying through the airA
Wind a hummingP
Fears benumbingP
Here's another trap a comingP
ShoutsS
BashT
CrashT
Moses what a smashT
