Oh he was a handsome trotter and he couldn't be completer	A
He had such a splendid action and he trotted to this metre	A
Such a pace and such a courage such a record killing power	A
That he did his mile in two fifteen his twenty in the hour	A
When he trotted on the Bathurst road the pace it was a panter	A
But he broke the poet's rhythm when he broke out in a canter	A
	-
As we were remarking the pace was a panter	A
But just as we liked it he broke in a canter	A
And rattled along with a motion terrific	B
And scattered the sparks with a freedom prolific	B
He tugged at the bit and he jerked at the bridle	C
We pulled like a demon the effort was idle	C
The bit in his teeth and the rein in the crupper	A
We didn't much care to get home to our supper	A

Then we went	D
Like the wind	E
And our hands	F
They were skinned	G
And we thought	H
With a dread	I
To go over his head	I
And we tugged	J
And we strove	K
Couldn't say	L
That we drove	K
Till we found	M
It had stopped	N
And the gallop was dropped	N

Then he dropped into a trot again as steady as a pacer	A
And we thought we had a dandy that was sure to make a racer	A
That would rival all the Yankees and was bound to beat the British	O
Not a bit of vice about him though he was a trifle skittish	O
Past the buggies and the sulkies on the road we went a flying	P
For the pace it was a clinker and they had no chance of trying	P
But for fear he'd start a canter we were going to stop his caper	A
When he bolted like a bullet at a flying piece of paper	A

Helter skelter	A
What a pelter	A
Such a pace to win a welter	A
Rush	Q
Race	R
Tear	A
Flying through the air	A
Wind a humming	P
Fears benumbing	P
Here's another trap a coming	P
Shouts	S
Bash	T
Crash	T
Moses what a smash	T
