One Home Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DED FGF HIB JKL

Mine was a Midwest home you can keep your worldA
Plain black hats rode the thoughts that made our codeB
We sang hymns in the house the roof was near GodC
-
-
The light bulb that hung in the pantry made a wan lightD
but we could read by it the names of preservesE
outside the buffalo grass and the wind in the nightD
-
-
A wildcat sprang at Grandpa on the Fourth of JulyF
when he was cutting plum bushes for fuelG
before Indians pulled the West over the edge of the skyF
-
-
To anyone who looked at us we said My friendH
liking the cut of a thought we could say HelloI
But plain black hats rode the thoughts that made our codeB
-
-
The sun was over our town it was like a bladeJ
Kicking cottonwood leaves we ran toward stormsK
Wherever we looked the land would hold us upL
