The Halcyon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC ADAD ECE FGFG AHAH

Why o'er the verdant banks of OuseA
Does yonder Halcyon speed so fastB
'Tis all because she would not loseA
Her favourite calm that will not lastB
-
The sun with azure paints the skiesA
The stream reflects each flowery sprayC
And frugal of her time she fliesA
To take her fill of love and playC
-
See her when rugged Boreas blowsA
Warm in some rocky cell remainD
To seek for pleasure well she knowsA
Would only then enhance the painD
-
'Descend ' she cries 'thou hated showerE
Deform my limpid waves to dayC
For I have chose a fairer hourE
To take my fill of love and play '-
-
You too my Silvia sure will ownF
Life's azure seasons swiftly rollG
And when our youth or health is flownF
To think of love but shocks the soulG
-
Could Damon but deserve thy charmsA
As thou art Damon's only themeH
He'd fly as quick to Celia's armsA
As yonder Halcyon stems the streamH
