Song Vii. - When Bright Roxana Treads The Green Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDBBEE FGHHIJ

When bright Roxana treads the greenA
In all the pride of dress and mienA
Averse to freedom love and playB
The dazzling rival of the dayB
None other beauty strikes mine eyeC
The lilies droop the roses dieC
-
But when disclaiming art the fairD
Assumes a soft engaging airD
Mild as the opening morn of MayB
Familiar friendly free and gayB
The scene improves where'er she goesE
More sweetly smile the pink and roseE
-
O lovely Maid propitious hearF
Nor deem thy shepherd insincereG
Pity a wild illusive flameH
That varies objects still the sameH
And let their very changes proveI
The never varied force of loveJ
