Song Iii. - Ye Gentle Nymphs And Generous Dames Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

Ye gentle Nymphs and generous DamesA
That rule o'er every British mindB
Be sure ye soothe their amorous flamesA
Be sure your laws are not unkindB
-
For hard it is to wear their bloomC
In unremitting sighs awayD
To mourn the night's oppressive gloomC
And faintly bless the rising dayD
-
And cruel 'twere a freeborn swainE
A British youth should vainly moanF
Who scornful of a tyrant's chainE
Submits to yours and yours aloneF
-
Nor pointed spear nor links of steelG
Could e'er those gallant minds subdueH
Who Beauty's wounds with pleasure feelG
And boast the fetters wrought by youH
