Song Ii. The Landscape Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

How pleased within my native bowersA
Erewhile I pass'd the dayB
Was ever scene so deck'd with flowersA
Were ever flowers so gayB
-
How sweetly smiled the hill the valeC
And all the landscape roundD
The river gliding down the daleC
The hill with beeches crown'dD
-
But now when urged by tender woesE
I speed to meet my dearF
That hill and stream my zeal opposeE
And check my fond careerF
-
No more since Daphne was my themeG
Their wonted charms I seeH
That verdant hill and silver streamG
Divide my love and meH
