Ode To Indolence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HIHI JKLK MNMN OPOP GQGQ RSRT

Ah why for ever on the wingA
Persists my wearied soul to roamB
Why ever cheated strives to bringA
Or pleasure or contentment homeB
-
Thus the poor bird that draws his nameC
From Paradise's honour'd grovesD
Careless fatigues his little frameC
Nor finds the resting place he lovesE
-
Lo on the rural mossy bedF
My limbs with careless ease reclinedG
Ah gentle Sloth indulgent spreadF
The same soft bandage o'er my mindG
-
For why should lingering thought invadeH
Yet every worldly prospect cloyI
Lend me soft Sloth thy friendly aidH
And give me peace debarr'd of joyI
-
Lov'st thou yon calm and silent floodJ
That never ebbs that never flowsK
Protected by the circling woodL
From each tempestuous wind that blowsK
-
An altar on its bank shall riseM
Where oft thy votary shall be foundN
What time pale Autumn lulls the skiesM
And sickening verdure fades aroundN
-
Ye busy Race ye factious TrainO
That haunt ambition's guilty shrineP
No more perplex the world in vainO
But offer here your vows with mineP
-
And thou puissant Queen be kindG
If e'er I shared thy balmy powerQ
If e'er I sway'd my active mindG
To weave for thee the rural bowerQ
-
Dissolve in sleep each anxious careR
Each unavailing sigh removeS
And only let me wake to shareR
The sweets of friendship and of loveT
