Cupid And Plutus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BCBC BBBB DEDE FBF BBBB GBGB HIJI KLK

When Celia love's eternal foeA
To rich old Gomez first was marriedB
And angry Cupid came to knowA
His shafts had err'd his bow miscarriedB
-
He sigh'd he wept he hung his headB
On the cold ground full sad he laid himC
When Plutus there by fortune ledB
In this desponding plight survey'd himC
-
'And sure ' he cried 'you'll own at lastB
Your boasted power by mine exceededB
Say wretched boy now all is pastB
How little she your efforts heededB
-
'If with success you would assailD
Gild youngster doubly gild your arrowsE
Little the feather'd shafts availD
Though wing'd from mamma's doves and sparrowsE
-
'What though each reed each arrow grewF
Where Venus bathed herself depend on'tB
'Twere more for use for beauty tooF
A diamond sparkled at the end on't '-
-
'Peace Plutus peace ' the boy repliedB
'Were not my arts by yours infestedB
I could each other power derideB
And rule this circle unmolestedB
-
'See yonder pair no worldly viewsG
In Chloe's generous breast residedB
Love bade her the spruce valet chooseG
And she by potent love was guidedB
-
'For this she quits her golden dreamsH
In her gilt coach no more she rangesI
And her rich crimson bright with gemsJ
For cheeks impearl'd with tears she changesI
-
'Though sordid Celia own'd your powerK
Think not so monstrous my disgrace isL
You gain'd this nymph that very hourK
I gain'd a score in different places '-
