I go away this blessed dayA
To sail across the sea MATILDAB
My vessel starts for various partsC
At twenty after three MATILDAB
I hardly know where we may goD
Or if it's near or far MATILDAB
For CAPTAIN HYDE does not confideE
In any 'fore mast tar MATILDAB
-
Beneath my ban that mystic manF
Shall suffer COUTE QUI COUTE MATILDAB
What right has he to keep from meG
The Admiralty route MATILDAB
Because forsooth I am a youthH
Of common sailors' lot MATILDAB
Am I a man on human planF
Designed or am I not MATILDAB
-
But there my lass we'll let that passI
With anxious love I burn MATILDAB
I want to know if we shall goD
To church when I return MATILDAB
Your eyes are red you bow your headJ
It's pretty clear you thirst MATILDAB
To name the day What's that you sayA
You'll see me further first MATILDAB
-
I can't mistake the signs you makeK
Although you barely speak MATILDAB
Though pure and young you thrust your tongueL
Right in your pretty cheek MATILDAB
My dear I fear I hear you sneerM
I do I'm sure I do MATILDAB
With simple grace you make a faceN
Ejaculating Ugh MATILDAB
-
Oh pause to think before you drinkO
The dregs of Lethe's cup MATILDAB
Remember do what I've gone throughP
Before you give me up MATILDAB
Recall again the mental painQ
Of what I've had to do MATILDAB
And be assured that I've enduredR
It all along of you MATILDAB
-
Do you forget my blithesome petS
How once with jealous rage MATILDAB
I watched you walk and gaily talkT
With some one thrice your age MATILDAB
You squatted free upon his kneeG
A sight that made me sad MATILDAB
You pinched his cheek with friendly tweakU
Which almost drove me mad MATILDAB
-
I knew him not but hoped to spotV
Some man you thought to wed MATILDAB
I took a gun my darling oneW
And shot him through the head MATILDAB
I'm made of stuff that's rough and gruffX
Enough I own but ah MATILDAB
It DID annoy your sailor boyY
To find it was your pa MATILDAB
-
I've passed a life of toil and strifeZ
And disappointments deep MATILDAB
I've lain awake with dental acheK
Until I fell asleep MATILDAB
At times again I've missed a trainQ
Or p'rhaps run short of tin MATILDAB
And worn a boot on corns that shootA2
Or shaving cut my chin MATILDAB
-
But oh no trains no dental painsB2
Believe me when I say MATILDAB
No corns that shoot no pinching bootA2
Upon a summer day MATILDAB
It's my belief could cause such griefC2
As that I've suffered for MATILDAB
My having shot in vital spotV
Your old progenitor MATILDAB
-
Bethink you how I've kept the vowD2
I made one winter day MATILDAB
That come what could I never wouldE2
Remain too long away MATILDAB
And oh the crimes with which at timesF2
I've charged my gentle mind MATILDAB
To keep the vow I made and nowD2
You treat me so unkind MATILDAB
-
For when at sea off CaribbeeY
I felt my passion burn MATILDAB
By passion egged I went and beggedG2
The captain to return MATILDAB
And when my pet I couldn't getS
That captain to agree MATILDAB
Right through a sort of open portH2
I pitched him in the sea MATILDAB
-
Remember too how all the crewP
With indignation blind MATILDAB
Distinctly swore they ne'er beforeI2
Had thought me so unkind MATILDAB
And how they'd shun me one by oneW
An unforgiving group MATILDAB
I stopped their howls and sulky scowlsF2
By pizening their soup MATILDAB
-
So pause to think before you drinkO
The dregs of Lethe's cup MATILDAB
Remember do what I've gone throughP
Before you give me up MATILDAB
Recall again the mental painQ
Of what I've had to do MATILDAB
And be assured that I've enduredR
It all along of you MATILDAB
