The Philosophic Pill Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH

I've wisdom from the East and from the WestA
That's subject to no academic ruleB
You may find it in the jeering of a jestA
Or distill it from the folly of a foolB
I can teach you with a quip if I've a mindC
I can trick you into learning with a laughD
Oh winnow all my folly and you'll findC
A grain or two of truth among the chaffD
-
I can set a braggart quailing with a quipE
The upstart I can wither with a whimF
He may wear a merry laugh upon his lipE
But his laughter has an echo that is grimF
When they've offered to the world in merry guiseG
Unpleasant truths are swallowed with a willH
For he who'd make his fellow creatures wiseG
Should always gild the philosophic pillH
