The British Tar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDDD EFGFDDHH

A British tar is a soaring soulA
As free as a mountain birdB
His energetic fist should be ready to resistC
A dictatorial wordB
His nose should pant and his lip should curlD
His cheeks should flame and his brow should furlD
His bosom should heave and his heart should glowD
And his fist be ever ready for a knock down blowD
-
His eyes should flash with an inborn fireE
His brow with scorn be rungF
He never should bow down to a domineering frownG
Or the tang of a tyrant tongueF
His foot should stamp and his throat should growlD
His hair should twirl and his face should scowlD
His eyes should flash and his breast protrudeH
And this should be his customary attitudeH
