The Ape And The Lady Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDEEDD FFGGCCHIIHH JJKKCCLMMLL

A LADY fair of lineage highA
Was loved by an Ape in the days gone byA
The Maid was radiant as the sunB
The Ape was a most unsightly oneB
So it would not doC
His scheme fell throughC
For the Maid when his love took formal shapeD
Expressed such terrorE
At his monstrous errorE
That he stammered an apology and made his 'scapeD
The picture of a disconcerted ApeD
-
With a view to rise in the social scaleF
He shaved his bristles and he docked his tailF
He grew moustachios and he took his tubG
And he paid a guinea to a toilet clubG
But it would not doC
The scheme fell throughC
For the Maid was Beauty's fairest QueenH
With golden tressesI
Like a real princess'sI
While the Ape despite his razor keenH
Was the apiest Ape that ever was seenH
-
He bought white ties and he bought dress suitsJ
He crammed his feet into bright tight bootsJ
And to start his life on a brand new planK
He christened himself Darwinian ManK
But it would not doC
The scheme fell throughC
For the Maiden fair whom the monkey cravedL
Was a radiant BeingM
With a brain far seeingM
While a Man however well behavedL
At best is only a monkey shavedL
