Translation Of A Latin Poem Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: A BBCDECFGHFIIJJKKLMBB BCCNNOP| BY THE REV NEWTON OGLE DEAN OF MANCHESTER | A |
| - | |
| Oh thou that prattling on thy pebbled way | B |
| Through my paternal vale dost stray | B |
| Working thy shallow passage to the sea | C |
| Oh stream thou speedest on | D |
| The same as many seasons gone | E |
| But not alas to me | C |
| Remain the feelings that beguiled | F |
| My early road when careless and content | G |
| Losing the hours in pastimes innocent | H |
| Upon thy banks I strayed a playful child | F |
| Whether the pebbles that thy margin strew | I |
| Collecting heedlessly I threw | I |
| Or loved in thy translucent wave | J |
| My tender shrinking feet to lave | J |
| Or else ensnared your little fry | K |
| And thought how wondrous skilled was I | K |
| So passed my boyish days unknown to pain | L |
| Days that will ne'er return again | M |
| It seems but yesterday | B |
| I was a child to morrow to be gray | B |
| So years succeeding years steal silently away | B |
| Not fleeter thy own current hurrying thee | C |
| Rolls down to the great sea | C |
| Thither oh carry these sad thoughts the deep | N |
| Bury them thou meantime thy tenor keep | N |
| And winding through the green wood cheer | O |
| As erst my native peaceful pastures here | P |
