William Tell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBDEEDFGGFBB

A SONNETA
-
-
Chains may subdue the feeble spirit but theeB
Tell of the iron heart they could not tameC
For thou wert of the mountains they proclaimC
The everlasting creed of libertyB
That creed is written on the untrampled snowD
Thundered by torrents which no power can holdE
Save that of God when he sends forth his coldE
And breathed by winds that through the free heaven blowD
Thou while thy prison walls were dark aroundF
Didst meditate the lesson Nature taughtG
And to thy brief captivity was broughtG
A vision of thy Switzerland unboundF
The bitter cup they mingled strengthened theeB
For the great work to set thy country freeB
