William Tell. - A Sonnet. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACDDCEFFEAA

Chains may subdue the feeble spirit but theeA
Tell of the iron heart they could not tameB
For thou wert of the mountains they proclaimB
The everlasting creed of libertyA
That creed is written on the untrampled snowC
Thundered by torrents which no power can holdD
Save that of God when he sends forth his coldD
And breathed by winds that through the free heaven blowC
Thou while thy prison walls were dark aroundE
Didst meditate the lesson Nature taughtF
And to thy brief captivity was broughtF
A vision of thy Switzerland unboundE
The bitter cup they mingled strengthened theeA
For the great work to set thy country freeA
