To Cole, The Painter, Departing For Europe Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBBBBBDEEDFF

A SONNETA
-
-
Thine eyes shall see the light of distant skiesB
Yet COLE thy heart shall bear to Europe's strandC
A living image of thy native landC
Such as on thine own glorious canvas liesB
Lone lakes savannas where the bison rovesB
Rocks rich with summer garlands solemn streamsB
Skies where the desert eagle wheels and screamsB
Spring bloom and autumn blaze of boundless grovesB
Fair scenes shall greet thee where thou goest fairD
But different everywhere the trace of menE
Paths homes graves ruins from the lowest glenE
To where life shrinks from the fierce Alpine airD
Gaze on them till the tears shall dim thy sightF
But keep that earlier wilder image brightF
