The Yellow Violet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ KLKL MNMN OPOP

When beechen buds begin to swellA
And woods the blue bird's warble knowB
The yellow violet's modest bellA
Peeps from the last year's leaves belowB
-
Ere russet fields their green resumeC
Sweet flower I love in forest bareD
To meet thee when thy faint perfumeC
Alone is in the virgin airD
-
Of all her train the hands of SpringE
First plant thee in the watery mouldF
And I have seen thee blossomingE
Beside the snow bank's edges coldF
-
Thy parent sun who bade thee viewG
Pale skies and chilling moisture sipH
Has bathed thee in his own bright hueG
And streaked with jet thy glowing lipH
-
Yet slight thy form and low thy seatI
And earthward bent thy gentle eyeJ
Unapt the passing view to meetI
When loftier flowers are flaunting nighJ
-
Oft in the sunless April dayK
Thy early smile has stayed my walkL
But midst the gorgeous blooms of MayK
I passed thee on thy humble stalkL
-
So they who climb to wealth forgetM
The friends in darker fortunes triedN
I copied them but I regretM
That I should ape the ways of prideN
-
And when again the genial hourO
Awakes the painted tribes of lightP
I'll not o'erlook the modest flowerO
That made the woods of April brightP
