The West Wind Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD AEAE FAFA GHGI AAAA JKJK

Beneath the forest's skirts I restA
Whose branching pines rise dark and highB
And hear the breezes of the WestA
Among the threaded foliage sighB
-
Sweet Zephyr why that sound of woeC
Is not thy home among the flowersD
Do not the bright June roses blowC
To meet thy kiss at morning hoursD
-
And lo thy glorious realm outspreadA
Yon stretching valleys green and gayE
And yon free hill tops o'er whose headA
The loose white clouds are borne awayE
-
And there the full broad river runsF
And many a fount wells fresh and sweetA
To cool thee when the mid day sunsF
Have made thee faint beneath their heatA
-
Thou wind of joy and youth and loveG
Spirit of the new wakened yearH
The sun in his blue realm aboveG
Smooths a bright path when thou art hereI
-
In lawns the murmuring bee is heardA
The wooing ring dove in the shadeA
On thy soft breath the new fledged birdA
Takes wing half happy half afraidA
-
Ah thou art like our wayward raceJ
When not a shade of pain or illK
Dims the bright smile of Nature's faceJ
Thou lovest to sigh and murmur stillK
