The Life Of The Blessed (from The Spanish Of Luis Ponce De Leon) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACC DEDEE FGFGG AHAHI JKJKK LMNMM OPOPP GFGFF

Region of life and lightA
Land of the good whose earthly toils are o'erB
Nor frost nor heat may blightA
Thy vernal beauty fertile shoreC
Yielding thy blessed fruits for evermoreC
-
There without crook or slingD
Walks the good shepherd blossoms white and redE
Round his meek temples clingD
And to sweet pastures ledE
His own loved flock beneath his eye is fedE
-
He guides and near him theyF
Follow delighted for he makes them goG
Where dwells eternal MayF
And heavenly roses blowG
Deathless and gathered but again to growG
-
He leads them to the heightA
Named of the infinite and long sought GoodH
And fountains of delightA
And where his feet have stoodH
Springs up along the way their tender foodI
-
And when in the mid skiesJ
The climbing sun has reached his highest boundK
Reposing as he liesJ
With all his flock aroundK
He witches the still air with numerous soundK
-
From his sweet lute flow forthL
Immortal harmonies of power to stillM
All passions born of earthN
And draw the ardent willM
Its destiny of goodness to fulfilM
-
Might but a little partO
A wandering breath of that high melodyP
Descend into my heartO
And change it till it beP
Transformed and swallowed up oh love in theeP
-
Ah then my soul should knowG
Beloved where thou liest at noon of dayF
And from this place of woeG
Released should take its wayF
To mingle with thy flock and never strayF
