Sonnet (from The Portuguese Of Semedo) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDCDCD

It is a fearful night a feeble glareA
Streams from the sick moon in the o'erclouded skyB
The ridgy billows with a mighty cryB
Rush on the foamy beaches wild and bareA
No bark the madness of the waves will dareA
The sailors sleep the winds are loud and highB
Ah peerless Laura for whose love I dieB
Who gazes on thy smiles while I despairA
As thus in bitterness of heart I criedC
I turned and saw my Laura kind and brightD
A messenger of gladness at my sideC
To my poor bark she sprang with footstep lightD
And as we furrowed Tago's heaving tideC
I never saw so beautiful a nightD
