When the radiant morn of creation brokeA
And the world in the smile of God awokeA
And the empty realms of darkness and deathB
Were moved through their depths by his mighty breathB
And orbs of beauty and spheres of flameC
From the void abyss by myriads cameC
In the joy of youth as they darted awayD
Through the widening wastes of space to playD
Their silver voices in chorus rangE
And this was the song the bright ones sangE
-
Away away through the wide wide skyF
The fair blue fields that before us lieF
Each sun with the worlds that round him rollG
Each planet poised on her turning poleG
With her isles of green and her clouds of whiteH
And her waters that lie like fluid lightH
-
For the source of glory uncovers his faceI
And the brightness o'erflows unbounded spaceI
And we drink as we go the luminous tidesJ
In our ruddy air and our blooming sidesJ
Lo yonder the living splendours playD
Away on our joyous path awayD
-
Look look through our glittering ranks afarK
In the infinite azure star after starK
How they brighten and bloom as they swiftly passL
How the verdure runs o'er each rolling massL
And the path of the gentle winds is seenM
Where the small waves dance and the young woods leanM
-
And see where the brighter day beams pourN
How the rainbows hang in the sunny showerO
And the morn and eve with their pomp of huesP
Shift o'er the bright planets and shed their dewsP
And 'twixt them both o'er the teeming groundQ
With her shadowy cone the night goes roundQ
-
Away away in our blossoming bowersR
In the soft air wrapping these spheres of oursR
In the seas and fountains that shine with mornS
See Love is brooding and Life is bornS
And breathing myriads are breaking from nightH
To rejoice like us in motion and lightH
-
Glide on in your beauty ye youthful spheresT
To weave the dance that measures the yearsT
Glide on in the glory and gladness sentU
To the farthest wall of the firmamentU
The boundless visible smile of HimV
To the veil of whose brow your lamps are dimV
