Mary Magdalen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCCBDE FGGFHH IJJIKK LMMLHH

FROM THE SPANISH OF BARTOLOME LEONARDO DE ARGENSOLAA
-
-
Blessed yet sinful one and broken heartedB
The crowd are pointing at the thing forlornC
In wonder and in scornC
Thou weepest days of innocence departedB
Thou weepest and thy tears have power to moveD
The Lord to pity and loveE
-
The greatest of thy follies is forgivenF
Even for the least of all the tears that shineG
On that pale cheek of thineG
Thou didst kneel down to Him who came from heavenF
Evil and ignorant and thou shalt riseH
Holy and pure and wiseH
-
It is not much that to the fragrant blossomI
The ragged brier should change the bitter firJ
Distil Arabian myrrhJ
Nor that upon the wintry desert's bosomI
The harvest should rise plenteous and the swainK
Bear home the abundant grainK
-
But come and see the bleak and barren mountainsL
Thick to their tops with roses come and seeM
Leaves on the dry dead treeM
The perished plant set out by living fountainsL
Grows fruitful and its beauteous branches riseH
For ever towards the skiesH
