FROM PEYRE VIDAL THE TROUBADOURA
-
-
The earth was sown with early flowersB
The heavens were blue and brightC
I met a youthful cavalierD
As lovely as the lightC
I knew him not but in my heartE
His graceful image liesF
And well I marked his open browG
His sweet and tender eyesF
His ruddy lips that ever smiledH
His glittering teeth betwixtI
And flowing robe embroidered o'erJ
With leaves and blossoms mixedI
He wore a chaplet of the roseK
His palfrey white and sleekL
Was marked with many an ebon spotM
And many a purple streakL
Of jasper was his saddle bowG
His housings sapphire stoneN
And brightly in his stirrup glancedO
The purple calcedonN
Fast rode the gallant cavalierD
As youthful horsemen rideP
'Peyre Vidal know that I am Love '-
The blooming stranger criedP
'And this is Mercy by my sideP
A dame of high degreeQ
This maid is Chastity ' he saidR
'This squire is Loyalty '-
