Lines In Memory Of William Leggett Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

The earth may ring from shore to shoreA
With echoes of a glorious nameB
But he whose loss our tears deploreA
Has left behind him more than fameB
-
For when the death frost came to lieC
On Leggett's warm and mighty heartD
And quenched his bold and friendly eyeC
His spirit did not all departD
-
The words of fire that from his penE
Were flung upon the fervent pageF
Still move still shake the hearts of menE
Amid a cold and coward ageF
-
His love of truth too warm too strongG
For Hope or Fear to chain or chillH
His hate of tyranny and wrongG
Burn in the breasts he kindled stillH
