I Cannot Forget With What Fervid Devotion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJKJ ALAL AMAN

I cannot forget with what fervid devotionA
I worshipped the vision of verse and of fameB
Each gaze at the glories of earth sky and oceanA
To my kindled emotions was wind over flameB
-
And deep were my musings in life's early blossomC
Mid the twilight of mountain groves wandering longD
How thrilled my young veins and how throbbed my full bosomC
When o'er me descended the spirit of songD
-
'Mong the deep cloven fells that for ages had listenedE
To the rush of the pebble paved river betweenF
Where the kingfisher screamed and gray precipice glistenedE
All breathless with awe have I gazed on the sceneF
-
Till I felt the dark power o'er my reveries stealingG
From his throne in the depth of that stern solitudeH
And he breathed through my lips in that tempest of feelingG
Strains lofty or tender though artless and rudeH
-
Bright visions I mixed with the world and ye fadedI
No longer your pure rural worshipper nowJ
In the haunts your continual presence pervadedK
Ye shrink from the signet of care on my browJ
-
In the old mossy groves on the breast of the mountainA
In deep lonely glens where the waters complainL
By the shade of the rock by the gush of the fountainA
I seek your loved footsteps but seek them in vainL
-
Oh leave not forlorn and for ever forsakenA
Your pupil and victim to life and its tearsM
But sometimes return and in mercy awakenA
The glories ye showed to his earlier yearsN
