Know that I would accounted beA
True brother of a companyA
That sang to sweeten Ireland's wrongB
Ballad and story rann and songB
Nor be I any less of themC
Because the red rose bordered hemC
Of her whose history beganD
Before God made the angelic clanD
Trails all about the written pageE
When Time began to rant and rageE
The measure of her flying feetF
Made Ireland's heart hegin to beatF
And Time bade all his candles flareG
To light a measure here and thereG
And may the thoughts of Ireland broodH
Upon a measured guietudeH
Nor may I less be counted oneI
With Davis Mangan FergusonI
Because to him who ponders wellJ
My rhymes more than their rhyming tellJ
Of things discovered in the deepK
Where only body's laid asleepK
For the elemental creatures goL
About my table to and froL
That hurry from unmeasured mindH
To rant and rage in flood and windH
Yet he who treads in measured waysM
May surely barter gaze for gazeM
Man ever journeys on with themC
After the red rose bordered hemC
Ah faerics dancing under the moonN
A Druid land a Druid tuneN
While still I may I write for youO
The love I lived the dream I knewO
From our birthday until we dieH
Is but the winking of an eyeH
And we our singing and our loveP
What measurer Time has lit aboveP
And all benighted things that goL
About my table to and froL
Are passing on to where may beA
In truth's consuming ecstasyA
No place for love and dream at allQ
For God goes by with white footfallQ
I cast my heart into my rhymesR
That you in the dim coming timesR
May know how my heart went with themC
After the red rose bordered hemC
