The Curse Of Cromwell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEC FGHHIIEC JJKKLLEC MMBBNNEC

You ask what I have found and far and wide I goA
Nothing but Cromwell's house and Cromwell's murderous crewB
The lovers and the dancers are beaten into the clayC
And the tall men and the swordsmen and the horsemen where are theyC
And there is an old beggar wandering in his prideD
His fathers served their fathers before Christ was crucifiedD
O what of that O what of thatE
What is there left to sayC
-
All neighbourly content and easy talk are goneF
But there's no good complaining for money's rant is onG
He that's mounting up must on his neighbour mountH
And we and all the Muses are things of no accountH
They have schooling of their own but I pass their schooling byI
What can they know that we know that know the time to dieI
O what of that O what of thatE
What is there left to sayC
-
But there's another knowledge that my heart destroysJ
As the fox in the old fable destroyed the Spartan boy'sJ
Because it proves that things both can and cannot beK
That the swordsmen and the ladies can still keep companyK
Can pay the poet for a verse and hear the fiddle soundL
That I am still their setvant though all are undergroundL
O what of that O what of thatE
What is there left to sayC
-
I came on a great house in the middle of the nightM
Its open lighted doorway and its windows all alightM
And all my friends were there and made me welcome tooB
But I woke in an old ruin that the winds howled throughB
And when I pay attention I must out and walkN
Among the dogs and horses that understand my talkN
O what of that O what of thatE
What is there left to sayC
