A Memory Of Youth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCACBA DEFDFED GHIJIHK

The moments passed as at a playA
I had the wisdom love brings forthB
I had my share of mother witC
And yet for all that I could sayA
And though I had her praise for itC
A cloud blown from the cut throat NorthB
Suddenly hid Love's moon awayA
-
Believing every word I saidD
I praised her body and her mindE
Till pride had made her eyes grow brightF
And pleasure made her cheeks grow redD
And vanity her footfall lightF
Yet we for all that praise could findE
Nothing but darkness overheadD
-
We sat as silent as a stoneG
We knew though she'd not said a wordH
That even the best of love must dieI
And had been savagely undoneJ
Were it not that Love upon the cryI
Of a most ridiculous little birdH
Tore from the clouds his marvellous moonK
