I slept in long ago | B |
A straight white curtain at the head | A |

I thought I saw the nursery fire | C |
And in a chair well known | D |
My mother sat and did not tire | C |
With reading all alone | D |
If I should make the slightest sound | E |
To show that I'm awake | F |
She'd rise and lap the blankets round | E |

The shadows on the wall | H |
And then sing Rousseau's Dream to me | G |
Till fast asleep I fall | H |
But this is not my little bed | A |
That time is far away | I |
With strangers now I live instead | A |
From dreary day to day | I |
