The Fading Flower Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

There is a chillness in the airA
A coldness in the smile of dayB
And e'en the sunbeam's crimson glareA
Seems shaded with a tinge of grayB
-
Weary of journeys to and froC
The sun low creeps adown the skyD
And on the shivering earth belowC
The long cold shadows grimly lieD
-
But there will fall a deeper shadeE
More chilling than the Autumn's breathF
There is a flower that yet must fadeE
And yield its sweetness up to deathF
-
She sits upon the window seatG
Musing in mournful silence thereA
While on her brow the sunbeams meetG
And dally with her golden hairA
-
She gazes on the sea of lightH
That overflows the western skiesI
Till her great soul seems plumed for flightH
From out the window of her eyesI
-
Hopes unfulfilled have vexed her breastJ
Sad smiles have checked the rising sighD
Until her weary heart confessedJ
Reluctantly that she must dieD
-
And she has thought of all the tiesI
The golden ties that bind her hereK
Of all that she has learned to prizeI
Of all that she has counted dearL
-
The joys of body heart and mindM
The pleasures that she loves so wellN
The grasp of friendship warm and kindM
And love's delicious hallowed spellN
-
And she has wept that she must lieD
Beneath the snow wreaths drifted deepO
With no fond mother standing nighD
To watch her in her silent sleepO
-
And she has prayed if it might beP
Within the reach of human skillQ
And not averse to Heaven that sheP
Might live a little longer stillQ
-
But earthly hope is gone and nowR
Comes in its place a brighter beamS
Leaving upon her snowy browR
The impress of a heavenly dreamS
-
That she when her frail body yieldsT
And fades away to mortal eyesI
Shall burst through Heaven's eternal fieldsT
And bloom again in ParadiseU
