The Lonely Road Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABAAB CDCCD EFEEF

The Lonely RoadA
So long had I travelled the lonely roadA
Though now and again a wayfairing friendB
Walked shoulder to shoulder and lightened the loadA
I often would think to myself as I strodeA
No comrade will journey with you to the endB
-
And it seemed to me as the days went pastC
And I gossiped with cronies or brooded aloneD
By wayside fires that my fortune was castC
To sojourn by other men's hearths to the lastC
And never to come to my own hearthstoneD
-
The lonely road no longer I roamE
We met and were one in the heart's desireF
Together we came through the wintry gloamE
To the little old house by the cross ways homeE
And crossed the threshold and kindled the fireF
