Home Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDCCD EFEEFSo long had I travelled the lonely road | A |
Though now and again a wayfairing friend | B |
Walked shoulder to shoulder and lightened the load | A |
I often would think to myself as I strode | A |
No comrade will journey with you to the end | B |
- | |
And it seemed to me as the days went past | C |
And I gossiped with cronies or brooded alone | D |
By wayside fires that my fortune was cast | C |
To sojourn by other men's hearths to the last | C |
And never to come to my own hearthstone | D |
- | |
The lonely road no longer I roam | E |
We met and were one in the heart's desire | F |
Together we came through the wintry gloam | E |
To the little old house by the cross ways home | E |
And crossed the threshold and kindled the fire | F |
