Rhyme Scheme: ABACCACADEFGHHSo I I am ashamed of my old life | A |
Here in this saintly presence of days gone | B |
Ashamed of my weak heart's unmeaning strife | A |
Its loves its lusts its battles lost and won | C |
And its long search of pleasure 'neath the sun | C |
And its scant courage to endure the knife | A |
And its vain longing for good deeds undone | C |
Ending in bitter words with railing rife | A |
I am unworthy yet am comforted | D |
As one who driving o'er long trackless roads | E |
Of brake and rock and briar with footsore steed | F |
And springless chariot searching for vain gods | G |
Finds the high road before him where at ease | H |
The old world plods the rut of centuries | H |
