THE WISEST of the wiseA
Listen to pretty liesA
And love to hear them toldB
Doubt not that SolomonC
Listen d to many a oneC
Some in his youth and more when he grew oldB
-
I never was amongD
The choir of Wisdom s songE
But pretty lies lov d IF
As much as any kingG
When youth was on the wingG
And must it then be told when youth had quite gone byF
-
Alas and I have notH
The pleasant hour forgotH
When one pert lady saidI
O Walter I am quiteJ
Bewilder d with affrightJ
I see sit quiet now a white hair on your headJ
-
Another more benignK
Snipp d it away from mineK
And in her own dark hairL
Pretended it was foundJ
She leap d and twirl d it roundJ
Fair as she was she never was so fairL
