The Dragon-fly Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DDEEFFGGHHDD

Life priest and poet say is but a dreamA
I wish no happier one than to be laidB
Beneath a cool syringa s scented shadeB
Or wavy willow by the running streamA
Brimful of moral where the dragon flyC
Wanders as careless and content as IC
-
Thanks for this fancy insect kingD
Of purple crest and filmy wingD
Who with indifference givest upE
The water lily s golden cupE
To come again and overlookF
What I am writing in my bookF
Believe me most who read the lineG
Will read with hornier eyes than thineG
And yet their souls shall live for everH
And thine drop dead into the riverH
God pardon them O insect kingD
Who fancy so unjust a thingD
