On The Descent Into Hell Of Ezzelino Di Napoli Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFGE HHIJJI KKLMML NNOPP

Rejoice ye nations one is deadA
By whom ten thousand hearts have bledA
Widows and orphans raise your voiceB
One voice ye prostrate peoples raiseC
To God to God alone be praiseC
All dwellers upon earth rejoiceB
-
The imprisond soul the tortured limbD
Are now at last set free by HimD
Each king their fellow king suppliedE
With thongs to scourge ye but your wrongsF
Reacht highest heaven Angelic tonguesG
Shouted when Earth's Flagellant diedE
-
The Demons heard and yell'd belowH
Glad that his endless day of woeH
Long after theirs had dimly dawn'dI
The proudest of them all sate dumbJ
Angry that any Prince should comeJ
Who grudg'd to give the soul he pawn'dI
-
He gnasht his teeth opprobrious namesK
Muttered on Death and wisht his flamesK
Could crack his stubborn ribs in vainL
He must resign or share the placeM
Imperial he must bear disgraceM
While that intruder feels but painL
-
The Devils' mouths but seldom waterN
Yet sniffing this fat slug of slaughterN
Theirs do they then this grace beginO
'We have carous'd on king and popeP
By dozens could the worthiest hopeP
A second course of Ezzelin '-
