Twenty forty sixty eightyA
A hundred years agoB
All through the night with lantern brightC
The Watch trudged to and froB
And little boys tucked snug abedD
Would wake from dreams to hearE
'Two o' the morning by the clockF
And the stars a shining clear 'G
Or when across the chimney topsH
Screamed shrill a North East galeI
A faint and shaken voice would shoutJ
'Three And a storm of hail 'G

William Frank Joseph Cripps : This is the first poem I learned in junior school and had to recite it to the whole school assembly.
christopher wilson.: I learned this poem at school around 1950. It was a favourite of mine and I used to recite in front of the class. All these years later it was still a pleasure to rread it again.
