The Unfinished Dream Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GGHG IJCJ KLML NOPO QRCR STUT TRKR AAAV WRare sweet the air in that unimagined country | A |
My spirit had wandered far | B |
From its weary body close enwrapt in slumber | C |
Where its home and earth friends are | B |
A milk like air and of light all abundance | D |
And there a river clear | E |
Painting the scene like a picture on its bosom | F |
Green foliage drifting near | E |
- | |
No sign of life I saw as I pressed onward | G |
Fish nor beast nor bird | G |
Till I came to a hill clothed in flowers to its summit | H |
Then shrill small voices I heard | G |
- | |
And I saw from concealment a company of elf folk | I |
With faces strangely fair | J |
Talking their unearthly scattered talk together | C |
A bind of green grasses in their hair | J |
- | |
Marvellously gentle feater far than children | K |
In gesture mien and speech | L |
Hastening onward in translucent shafts of sunshine | M |
And gossiping each with each | L |
- | |
Straw light their locks on neck and shoulder falling | N |
Faint of almond the silks they wore | O |
Spun not of worm but as if inwoven of moonbeams | P |
And foam on rock bound shore | O |
- | |
Like lank legged grasshoppers in June tide meadows | Q |
Amalillios of the day | R |
Hungrily gazed upon by me a stranger | C |
In unknown regions astray | R |
- | |
Yet happy beyond words I marked their sunlit faces | S |
Stealing soft enchantment from their eyes | T |
Tears in my own confusing their small image | U |
Harkening their bird like cries | T |
- | |
They passed me unseeing a waft of flocking linnets | T |
Sadly I fared on my way | R |
And came in my dream to a dreamlike habitation | K |
Close shut festooned and grey | R |
- | |
Pausing I gazed at the porch dust still vine wreath d | A |
Worn the stone steps thereto | A |
Mute hung its bell whence a stony head looked downward | A |
Grey 'gainst the sky's pale blue | V |
- | |
Strange to me strange | W |
