The Unfinished Dream Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GGHG IJCJ KLML NOPO QRCR STUT TRKR AAAV W

Rare sweet the air in that unimagined countryA
My spirit had wandered farB
From its weary body close enwrapt in slumberC
Where its home and earth friends areB
A milk like air and of light all abundanceD
And there a river clearE
Painting the scene like a picture on its bosomF
Green foliage drifting nearE
-
No sign of life I saw as I pressed onwardG
Fish nor beast nor birdG
Till I came to a hill clothed in flowers to its summitH
Then shrill small voices I heardG
-
And I saw from concealment a company of elf folkI
With faces strangely fairJ
Talking their unearthly scattered talk togetherC
A bind of green grasses in their hairJ
-
Marvellously gentle feater far than childrenK
In gesture mien and speechL
Hastening onward in translucent shafts of sunshineM
And gossiping each with eachL
-
Straw light their locks on neck and shoulder fallingN
Faint of almond the silks they woreO
Spun not of worm but as if inwoven of moonbeamsP
And foam on rock bound shoreO
-
Like lank legged grasshoppers in June tide meadowsQ
Amalillios of the dayR
Hungrily gazed upon by me a strangerC
In unknown regions astrayR
-
Yet happy beyond words I marked their sunlit facesS
Stealing soft enchantment from their eyesT
Tears in my own confusing their small imageU
Harkening their bird like criesT
-
They passed me unseeing a waft of flocking linnetsT
Sadly I fared on my wayR
And came in my dream to a dreamlike habitationK
Close shut festooned and greyR
-
Pausing I gazed at the porch dust still vine wreath dA
Worn the stone steps theretoA
Mute hung its bell whence a stony head looked downwardA
Grey 'gainst the sky's pale blueV
-
Strange to me strangeW
