The Scarecrow Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGFHFIFEJEJKCLC EBMD

All winter through I bow my headA
beneath the driving rainB
the North Wind powders me with snowC
and blows me black againD
at midnight 'neath a maze of starsE
I flame with glittering rimeF
and stand above the stubble stiffG
as mail at morning primeF
But when that child called Spring and allH
his host of children comeF
scattering their buds and dew uponI
these acres of my homeF
some rapture in my rags awakesE
I lift void eyes and scanJ
the sky for crows those ravening foesE
of my strange master ManJ
I watch him striding lank behindK
his clashing team and knowC
soon will the wheat swish body highL
where once lay a sterile snowC
soon I shall gaze across a seaE
of sun begotten grainB
which my unflinching watch hath sealedM
for harvest once againD

Sandy Bainbridge: This wonderful poem takes me back to being an 11 year old and winning a poetry reading competition at school. Memories come back so clear as I'm now over 60 and actually writing my Memoirs and including The Scarecrow.
