The Old Men Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DEDE FGFH IJIJ KL L MN N

Old and alone sit weA
Caged riddle rid menB
Lost to earth's 'Listen ' and 'See 'C
Thought's 'Wherefore ' and 'When 'C
-
Only far memories strayD
Of a past once lovely but nowE
Wasted and faded awayD
Like green leaves from the boughE
-
Vast broods the silence of nightF
The ruinous moonG
Lifts on our faces her lightF
Whence all dreaming is goneH
-
We speak not trembles each headI
In their sockets our eyes are stillJ
Desire as cold as the deadI
Without wonder or willJ
-
And One with a lanthorn draws nearK
At clash with the moon in our eyesL
'Where art thou ' he asks 'I am here '-
One by one we ariseL
-
And none lifts a hand to withholdM
A friend from the touch of that foeN
Heart cries unto heart 'Thou art old '-
Yet reluctant we goN
