And now we'll play the livelong dayC

All in the forest highF
He sees three doves a flittingE
Against the dark blue skyF

'Says he My son now followG
These doves so white and freeA
That cry above the forestH
And surely cry to theeA

I go my dearest FatherI
But O I sadly fearJ
These doves so white will lead me farK
But never bring me nearJ

'He kisses the MillerI
He cries Awhoop to yeA
And straightway through the forestH
Follows the wood doves threeA

'There came a sound of weepingE
To the Miller in his MillL
Red roses in a thicketM
Bloomed over near his wheelN

'Three stars shone wild and brightlyA
Above the forest dimO
But never his dearest sonP
Returns again to himO

'The cuckoo shall call CuckooQ
In vain along the valeR
The linnet and the blackbirdS
The mournful nightingaleR

'The Miller hears and sees notT
A thinking of his sonP
His toppling wheel is silentU
His grinding doneP

' Ye doves so white he weepethA
Ye roses on the treeA
Ye stars that shine so brightlyA
Ye shine in vain for meA

'I bade him follow followG
He said O Father dearJ
These doves so white will lead me farK
