The Dark Chateau Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDEDE AFAGHIHI JKJLLELC MNMNLLLL LOLPQCQA

In dreams a dark ch teauA
Stands ever open to meB
In far ravines dream waters flowC
Descending soundlesslyC
Above its peaks the eagle floatsD
Lone in a sunless skyE
Mute are the golden woodland throatsD
Of the birds flitting byE
-
No voice is audible The windA
Sleeps in its peaceF
No flower of the light can findA
Refuge 'neath its treesG
Only the darkening ivy climbsH
Mingled with wilding roseI
And cypress morn and evening time'sH
Black shadow throwsI
-
All vacant and unknownJ
Only the dreamer stepsK
From stone to hollow stoneJ
Where the green moss sleepsL
Peers at the river in its deepsL
The eagle lone in the skyE
While the dew of evening dripsL
Coldly and silentlyC
-
Would that I could press inM
Into each secret roomN
Would that my sleep bright eyes could winM
To the inner gloomN
Gaze from its high windowsL
Far down its mouldering wallsL
Where amber clear still Lethe flowsL
And foaming fallsL
-
But ever as I gazeL
From slumber soft doth comeO
Some touch my stagnant sense to raiseL
To its old earthly homeP
Fades then that sky sereneQ
And peak of ageless snowC
Fades to a paling dawn lit greenQ
My dark ch teauA
