Mrs. Grundy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DDEE FGHH IJKK LMNN OPQQ RRSS

Step very softly sweet Quiet footA
Stumble not whisper not smile notB
By this dark ivy stoop cheek and browC
Still even thy heart What seest thouC
-
High coifed broad browed aged suave yet grimD
A large flat face eyes keenly dimD
Staring at nothing that's me and yetE
With a hate one could never no never forgetE
-
This is my world my garden my homeF
Hither my father bade mother to comeG
And bear me out of the dark into lightH
And happy I was in her tender sightH
-
And then thou frail flower she died and wentI
Forgetting my pitiless banishmentJ
And that Old Woman an Aunt she saidK
Came hither lodged fattened and made her bedK
-
Oh yes thou most blessed from Monday to SundayL
Has lived on me preyed on me Mrs GrundyM
Called me 'dear Nephew' on each of those chairsN
Has gloated in righteousness heard my prayersN
-
Why didst thou dare the thorns of the groveO
Timidest trespasser huntress of loveP
Now thou hast peeped and now dost knowQ
What kind of creature is thine for foeQ
-
Not that she'll tear out thy innocent eyesR
Poison thy mouth with deviltriesR
Watch thou wait thou soon will beginS
The guile of a voice hark Come in Come inS
