Martha Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEEE EEFE GFHF AFFF IJKL FMNM

Once Once upon a timeA
Over and over againB
Martha would tell us her storiesC
In the hazel glenB
-
Hers were those clear gray eyesD
You watch and the story seemsE
Told by their beautifulnessE
Tranquil as dreamsE
-
She'd sit with her two slim handsE
Clasped round her bended kneesE
While we on our elbows lolledF
And stared at easeE
-
Her voice and her narrow chinG
Her grave small lovely headF
Seemed half the meaningH
Of the words she saidF
-
Once Once upon a timeA
Like a dream you dream in the nightF
Fairies and gnomes stole outF
In the leaf green lightF
-
And her beauty far awayI
Would fade as her voice ran onJ
Till hazel and summer sunK
And all were goneL
-
All fordone and forgotF
And like clouds in the height of the skyM
Our hearts stood still in the hushN
Of an age gone byM
