Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEAE CFGF ABCB

I spied John Mouldy in his cellerA
Deep down twenty steps of stoneB
In the dusk he sat a smilingC
Smiling there all aloneB
-
He read no book he snuffed no candleD
The rats ran in the rats ran outE
And far and near the drip of waterA
Went whisp'ring aboutE
-
The dusk was still with dew a fallingC
I saw the Dog star bleak and grimF
I saw a slim brown rat of NorwayG
Creep over himF
-
I spied John Mouldy in his cellerA
Deep down twenty steps of stoneB
In the dusk he sat a smilingC
Smiling there all aloneB
