I know where lurkA
The eyes of FearB
I I aloneC
Where shadowy clearB
Watching for meD
Lurks FearB
-
'Tis ever stillE
And dark despiteF
All singing andG
All candlelightF
'Tis ever coldH
And nightF
-
He touches meD
Says quietlyD
Stir not nor whisperI
I am nighJ
Walk noiseless onK
I am byJ
-
He drives meD
As a dog a sheepL
Like a cold stoneC
I cannot weepL
He lifts meD
Hot from sleepL
-
In marble handsM
To where on highJ
The jewelled horrorI
Of his eyeJ
Dares me to struggleN
Or cryJ
-
No breast whereinO
To chase awayP
That watchful shapeQ
Vain vain to sayP
Haunt not with nightF
The DayP
