Captain Lean Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE FGHG IJKJ BLML

Out of the East a hurricaneA
Swept down on Captain LeanB
That mariner and gentlemanC
Will ne'er again be seenB
-
He sailed his ship against the foesD
Of his own country dearE
But now in the trough of the billowsD
An aimless course doth steerE
-
Powder was violets to his nostrilF
Sweet the din of the fighting lineG
Now he is flotsam on the seasH
And his bones are bleached with brineG
-
The stars move up along the skyI
The moon she shines so brightJ
And in that solitude the foamK
Sparkles unearthly whiteJ
-
This is the tomb of Captain LeanB
Would a straiter please his soulL
I trow he sleeps in peaceM
Howsoever the billows rollL
