Brueghel's Winter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDBEBFBDBGB HCICJC

Jagg'd mountain peaks and skies ice greenA
Wall in the wild cold scene belowB
Churches farms bare copse the seaC
In freezing quiet of winter showB
Where ink black shapes on fields in floodD
Curling skating and sliding goB
To left a gabled tavern a blazeE
Peasants a watching child and loB
Muffled mute beneath naked treesF
In sharp perspective set a rowB
Trudge huntsmen sinister spears aslantD
Dogs snuffling behind them in the snowB
And arrowlike lean athwart the airG
Swoops into space a crowB
-
But flame nor ice nor piercing rockH
Nor silence as of a frozen seaC
Nor that slant inward infinite lineI
Of signboard bird and hill and treeC
Give more than subtle hint of himJ
Who squandered here life's mysteryC
