In Camp Before Philippsburg Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBAACCDDEEFFAAGGHH IJAAKKLLMMNNAA

Without a bed we now sleep soundA
And take our meals upon the groundA
And though the blazing atmosphereB
Must dreadful to the eye appearB
The air though roaring cannons rendA
While warriors with fierce rage contendA
The thoughtless French drink laugh and singC
And with their mirth the heavens ringC
The walls of Philippsburg shall burnD
And all her towers to ashes turnD
By fifty thousand AlexandersE
Who all deserve to be commandersE
Though they receive the paltry payF
Of only four poor sous a dayF
Lavish of life with high delightA
I see them rushing to the fightA
They all appear both gay and jollyG
Quite covered o'er with fame and follyG
The Phantom which we Glory nameH
Spurs them to the pursuit of fameH
With threat'ning eye and front all o'erI
Bedusted marching still beforeJ
She holds a trumpet in her handA
To sound to arms and cheer the bandA
And loudly sings with voice sonorousK
Catches which they repeat in chorusK
Oh people brilliant gay and vainL
Who drag with patience glory's chainL
'Tis great an honorable graveM
To seek Eugene and death to braveM
But what will be your mighty prizeN
What from your prowess will ariseN
Regret your blood in vain you spilt itA
At Paris cuckolded or jiltedA
