From Love To Friendship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGGGHHII JJAAKKLLMMNNOOPPQQ

If you would have me love once moreA
The blissful age of love restoreA
From wine's free joys and lovers' caresB
Relentless time who no man sparesB
Urges me quickly to retireC
And no more to such bliss aspireC
From such austerity exactD
Let's if we can some good extractD
Whose way of thinking with this ageE
Suits not can ne'er be deemed a sageE
Let sprightly youth its follies gayF
Its follies amiable displayF
Life to two moments is confinedG
Let one to wisdom be consignedG
You sweet delusions of my mindG
Still to my ruling passion kindG
Which always brought a sure reliefH
To life's accurst companion griefH
Will you forever from me flyI
And must I joyless friendless dieI
No mortal e'er resigns his breathJ
I see without a double deathJ
Who loves and is beloved no moreA
His hapless fate may well deploreA
Life's loss may easily be borneK
Of love bereft man is forlornK
'Twas thus those pleasures I lamentedL
Which I so oft in youth repentedL
My soul replete with soft desireM
Vainly regretted youthful fireM
But friendship then celestial maidN
From heaven descended to my aidN
Less lively than the amorous flameO
Although her tenderness the sameO
The charms of friendship I admiredP
My soul was with new beauty firedP
I then made one in friendship's trainQ
But destitute of love complainQ
